Linda Hoover is a working artist living in Houstonia, MO 10 miles north of Sedalia. She retired from teaching art in her local school Pettis Cty. RV 7 years ago, and has been delighted with the newfound time to make art and enjoy her grandchildren, and, as of this year, first great-granddaughter. There’s been good things happening even in 2020!!!

Linda’s mother was an artist who made beautiful watercolors and encouraged her to develop her own interest in art. She was always considered the class artist in elementary school, but it wasn’t until she had several children and wanted to have a business that she could do from home, that she began to develop her Art. At that point, she opened a sign painting business which was a good income for her for about 10 years until her last child started kindergarten. That year Linda returned to college herself, got a degree in Art Education from UCM, started teaching art and continued with that for 17 years during which time she got her master’s degree from MU in education with an emphasis in art.

She’s now serving her 5th year as president of SVAA, enjoying immensely the opportunities that have opened up for her in her art career, and feeling very grateful to God for those blessings and all the other blessings in her life.

Of the pictures posted here, Eternity, Tree City USA, Jesus and the Little Children are murals, and the cottonwood tree is on a door in her dining room.
Eternity was done for the Shepherd’s Place in downtown Sedalia and in that, Jesus is life-sized.
Tree City USA was commissioned by the Tree Board of Sedalia for their Arbor Day celebration and each panel is 3’ x 6’.
Jesus and the Little Children is hanging at Liberty Life Center and includes young members of families in the church as well as several adults for the models. It is 4’ x 5’. I like this idea of using real people to illustrate biblical passages because I think it can help us understand that these things happened to real people like you and me.
Springtime Anytime is a life sized mural at Liberty Park across the parking lot from the outdoor pool. This is Linda’s most recent mural and includes the Missouri Tree – Dogwood, Flower – Hawthorne Blossoms, Bird – Bluebirds, Reptile – Box Turtle, and Amphibian – Bullfrog.
